Caveman - Cave Women Costume
Want a quick, easy and fabulous Halloween costume?
Why We Like This Project
This is fast and really simple. There are only two seams, no hemming or edge finishing because we use faux fur, which does not fray. This is literally so quick you can make it after work and still get to the costume party on time.
Materials Needed
- 1-1/2 Yards to 2 Yards Faux Fur at least 50 inches wide for adult.
- Thread
Notes
A 1-1/2 yard piece will make a cave outfit that falls at about the knees. For a longer costume, or for tall people, use 2 yards. Also, a 50-60 inch wide fabric (most faux furs are 60" wide) will make a costume to fit most adults. For a child size, you may be able to use 45" fabric.
Directions
SEWING: Fold fur in half, length-wise with right sides together. Stitch along entire length. Now stitch along the entire top. Turn right-side out. You are almost done.
ARM HOLE: On the sewn side, trim out an armhole. Cut out about an inch from the top of the seam for a length of about 8 inches. You may want to try it on for a good measure. Your arm will go through the hole. The top seam will sit on your shoulder. You want enough room for your arm to fit comfortably in the hole, but not much bigger.
Now make a diagonal cut from the top seam, leaving about 4 inches of the top seam, down to the folded edge. Again, you probably want to try it on to be sure you don't make the cut too low. The cut should only go down to just under the armpit.

BOTTOM: Now cut the bottom hem into a jagged "Fred Flintstone" hemline. Again refer to Figure 1.
TIE: Cut a strip of fur from the diagonal piece. Strip should be about 1 to 1-1/2 inches wide, and about 9 inches long. It can be longer. Slip the tie under the one shoulder and tie.
You are now ready to boogey with the good cave people!
