Hawaiian Print

Hawaiian/British Strippy Throw

Here is something new for those chilly nights in Hawaii or chillier nights our Mainland cousins are having. The British Strippy is a basic lengthwise quilt top that utilizes WITH NAP prints for a contemporary look. Borders designs also work well for this project. We are using Hawaiian nap prints in lieu of standard allover cottons and behold we have a British Strippy with a Hawaiian flair.

Materials Needed

* Prewash ALL fabrics before cutting out. If using fleece soak in water and dry flat.

Cutting

  1. Square print fabric cut ends. If selvage edges are uneven you may want to cut them off. Repeat for contrast print.
  2. Fold print in half lengthwise. Measure 11-1/2" from selvage edge and cut (2) pieces lengthwise 11-1/2" x 54". Repeat for contrast print.

You should have:
Print (1) pc. 22" x 54", (2) pcs 11-1/2" x 54"
Contrast (1) pc. 22" x 54", (2) pcs 11-1/2" x 54"

These measurements will be slightly smaller if you needed to remove the selvage edges.

Sewing

  1. Align lengthwise raw edges of (1) 11" x 54" contrast piece to 22" x 54" print piece, pin, stitch.
  2. Align 2nd contrast piece on opposite side of print, pin, stitch.
  3. Press all seams open.
  4. Repeat above procedure using 22" x 54" contrast piece and (2) 11" x 54" print pieces.
  5. Layer (1) throw piece right side up; layer 2nd throw piece right side down; layer flannel/fleece/batting on top. Pin, stitch around entire throw, leaving a 6" opening for turning.
  6. Clip corners and turn; press. Topstitch around entire throw close to edge. You may wish to "stitch-in-the-ditch" along seam lines or tie throw with yarn or ribbon.
